We are talking creation a knowledge -based economy to prepare ourselves to face the cahllenges of the 21th centry .On the countray, there are about 80% Nepali students pusuing "general education" to acquire university degrees .They become "graducates" without the required skills and knowledge to meet the needs of the job markets in the country or abroadl Today, Nepali educational institutions bear the onus of preparing capable youths for the job market.
But who is responsible for providing them with skills, knowledge and employment? Educational institutions run by the government m or privately managed oones? who will bear their costs of education ? The government or individuals? These and many other issues remain unaddressed inour education polices. On the other hand , there are unanimous agendas in the mainfestos of all the political parties, the civil society, teachers and students' unions for "free and qulity education for all." If educationpolicies are made whimsically for the promulgation of meeting political gains only, the future of thousands of graduates will remain dismal .Consequently, this huge chunk of a potentially productive populace will remain a libaility to the nation at large!
Although Nepal's private sector has played a key role innation building , particularly through resource and employment generation, the government has failed to identify this mammoth contribution. On th e contrary , it has viewed this sector as an antagoist to the existence of government- run institutions.
